A panel is a collection of solar cells, placed on a flat surface arranged in columns (called Strings) and rows and are electrically connected together as one unit to produce an electrical output wattage. The panel produces only a small amount of electricity (ex. about 60W).

The output watt of the panel may vary according to the variations of the sun's intensity and the falling angle of sun rays onto the surface of the panel. Ambient temperature and dust are other factors to influence the amount of output wattage of the panel.

Two or more panels electrically connected together will form a photovoltaic array and produce even more output wattage (the sum of the individual watts of all the panels). Photovoltaic panels are the gateway in the production of electric power from the sun. "Your Solar Power Plant".

  • Voltage at Peak Power: Vmp 18.20 V
  • Current at Peak Power: Imp 11.27 A
  • Open circuit voltage: Voc 22.70 V
  • Short circuit current: Isc 11.93 A

These data are helpful for choosing your specific panel.

There are also the use of smaller pv-panels to drive small appliances such as:

-for charging small rechargeable batteries
-to drive laptops
-for use on boats
-for use on RV's
-mounted on gardenlights
-in watches
-mounted on fans for the suction of hot air out of the room
-mounted on water pumps and…. you name it.

The use of solar electric energy for air heating and water heating is not recommended. This is a very inefficient way for using solar electric panels. Your electric power installation will become very large and unneccessary more expensive.
You do better to move this kind of heat energy to solar thermal collectors, this is what we call energy efficiency.

Solar heating systems rely on a source of bright light, a surface or liquid that can absorb light and a storage device for the resulting heat generated.
Solar heat is by far the cheapest and most practical form of renewable energy in the world.
Some practical uses are water heaters, ovens, cookers and home heating.

The usage is limited by sunny days. Sun energy is clean energy and is renewable. Tomorrow the sun will be up again and give us the energy we rely on.
